Its that time of year again, time for spring mini sessions. I love doing sessions at Woodenshoe Tulip festival while the flowers are in full bloom they provide so many gorgeous colors to use as backgrounds. The grounds are usually … Continue reading
So I am WAY behind on blogging. Its not my forte! but I feel like these sessions deserve more than just a quick upload to Facebook. This particular newborn session was one of the hardest I have ever had. I know that is what I said about the last post but this one was harder. Little one did not want to sleep at all, did not want to be posed and was definitely NOT into hats. Mama contacted me just before she turned 2 weeks old and the timing was just not where it should have been, after struggling for a bit and having little one get pretty fussy we decided to go for more lifestyle shots than posed. So we got some ok cute shots but nothing that I would normally get. When I sent the gallery to mama she asked if we could have a do over. I of course said yes and we scheduled a new session for the following weekend. At this point Little Miss was about 5 weeks old and I expect it to be any easier but told mama that we would go for some more posed ones if little one would have it. I was actually really surprised how easy the second session went. Little Miss Z was an image of perfection for the entire session. Just goes to show that the normal before 2 weeks does not work for every baby.
And then sometimes You just have to include an outtake!
Baby Miss A really gave me a run for my money while shooting her Newborn Portraits. She wanted nothing to do with the camera and was REALLY not a hat girl. Her mama was so patient though and we prevailed. Eventually she did sleep and we pushed through as many poses as we could. In the end this has become one of my favorite sessions because while it didn’t go exactly as planned it still came out great and showed me that sometimes all it takes is patience.
Being a mother myself I know how important it is to have photos to look back on of your children and your family so every year I offer a special for mothers day portrait sessions. These photos will be the ones that you look back on for years to come and remember that silly little thing that your little one used to do or how they would always pick the road side “flowers” and give them to you.
This year I am offering two different options, its your choice would you like Carnations? Or Roses?

I was so excited that I got to do this little ones newborn photos. I first met his parents about a year ago when I had the opportunity to take couples photos of them, when little mans daddy got back from basic training. They were so much fun to shoot and this little man was no different. I had his two big brothers running around and playing with my props it was total chaos, but it was AMAZING. I love the fact that Newborn photography allows me to be a part of so many families even for just a moment. The photos that i take of these newborns will last a lifetime and my families trust me to help them preserve these moments. While I was taking photos of this beautiful boy I snapped a couple of his brothers wearing two of my wraps on their heads! It was GREAT!
Please enjoy the selection of photos that I have included below.

I am a Semi Pro photographer who specializes in on location photography, What does this mean? I do not have a studio and for the most part will use natural light. I love doing sessions that have a high style contrast like Glamorous senior photos in an industrial area or really rocky area and will do everything that I can to make sure your portraits are not “cookie cutter” that is unless you want them to be.
My style is more natural. I generally don’t do skin touch ups other than to remove large blemishes unless asked to. I feel that your natural beauty shines through in photographs. I also try to keep my edits crisp and clean on occasion if the frame screams sun flair or bright sunny day Ill add a little warm haze to add to that feeling or ill give things a little bit of a dreamy feeling with a matte look but even these are done with the thought that less is more.
I currently shoot with a Cannon T3i and have several lenses in my arsenal, as well as a flash that can be used on camera or off mounted on a tripod. I usually carry all my equipment with me except the tripod, though it is usually in my car. This allows me to be ready for most situations.
Some have asked me about back up equipment. I kinda have that covered as well, Once I approached my husband with the Idea of getting me a DSLR So I could branch out from just doing family portraits he grabbed the bull by the horns so to speak and helped me to research and then purchase “our” camera. A few short weeks later we realized that we do not share well! at that point we bought him an DSLR as well and he has since upgraded to a T4i thus I have a back up camera body just in case.

In addition to being a family portrait photographer I hold a regular 40 hr a week position at LinenTablecloth. A couple of weeks ago my boss asked me two questions, First would I like to take the presentation images for our website to help show what you can use your linens for either in your wedding or in your home and two if I would take his family photos for him. I jumped at both opportunities We spent two days shooting product photos and then when my boss told me he was done with photos two days was enough I reminded him that we still had family photos to do with a chuckle. While they got ready I set up a “studio” space in their living room. This living room is AMAZING for natural light. With floor to what would be the first floor ceiling if it wasn’t a loft style upstairs windows that let the perfect amount of light in. These four people are so photogenic what i thought was going to take an hour only took a half hour! Even the baby who is only two weeks old cooperated, it was amazing. So without any further chit chat here is the photos from the Berret Family Portrait Session.
I had the honor this weekend of getting to take newborn portraits of an adorable little boy. He was amazing through the whole session and only cried when we tried to put a hat on him that was a tad to small. Needless to say that hat came off pretty quickly and then he was happy again. We were able to get several wide awake baby pictures, During this time I tried to get some of the really cute propped up baby pictures however found that this did not work so well when the little man was awake. He was just a bit to wiggly. I had a lot of fun with this shoot since I love babies ( but who doesn’t) and getting to hold and coo with one while taking pictures is amazing. We did most of the photo ession inside in his nursery so that he would remain warm and secure in his surroundings and I think this worked out quite well. There was a large window that allowed plenty of natural light and I also used my fill flash to make sure that we didn’t have many harsh shadows. We did Head outside for some family portraits and the little guy promptly fell asleep but that was ok once we got back inside I was able to try and get the propped up baby portrait again and it worked much better. the center picture below is what came out of the little sleeping man. Being a photographer in Oregon is awesome. I love the fact that I get to capture a moment in a family or persons life that they will be able to remember forever. However I have come to the realization that as the bookings start piling up I need to limit them to three weekends a month. This is because I also have a regular 9-5 work day Monday through Friday. While I love my photography, my family is more important. So even though I do not want to cut into time that I can spend on this wonderful art, hobby and career I need to make sure that I make time for what is truly important in life. I have scheduled one weekend a month that I will not be taking bookings in, usually it is the first weekend of the month. You can see my current scheduled bookings and events on my events page found here. If you have an event that you would like me to photograph or would like to schedule portraits and see that I have a family weekend scheduled at that time but nothing else that month I may be able to change the family weekend if you schedule far enough in advance. If you would like to book a photography session with me please do not hesitate to contact me at email@example.com.
I am really excited for this new year especially with my budding photography business. Hopefully in the first couple of months I will have my website up and running. This will make it easier for me to give my clients proofs and I will be able to offer more tailored packages that Include prints. As of right now all of my prints are ala carte because I don’t really have a way to proof them other than my Facebook or my Deviant Art account. While these two options do allow you to see and in the case of Deviant Art Purchase your photos it also makes it so that everyone else can see them as well and well lets be honest not all portraits should be posted for public viewing. I do currently have a free website however it is more informational than interactive.
In this coming year I hope to do several weddings and lots of family, modeling, and nature shoots. I even have some Trash the dress shoots scheduled. This is going to be an exciting year for me. I can not wait to see how my photography is received by the public. It is kind of a hard thing to put yourself out there for everyone to see and critique but so far with the small clientele that I currently have I have been received fairly well.
I was only doing portraits and photo shoots for the general public this year for about half the year, before that it was all family and friends. I am hoping that I can get my name out there more and will be posting flyers and getting business cards in addition to my website this year.
Keep an eye on DellaMort Photography for sales and contests on my Facebook page.
Happy New year to everyone may it be a great one.
