Baby Miss A really gave me a run for my money while shooting her Newborn Portraits. She wanted nothing to do with the camera and was REALLY not a hat girl. Her mama was so patient though and we prevailed. Eventually she did sleep and we pushed through as many poses as we could. In the end this has become one of my favorite sessions because while it didn’t go exactly as planned it still came out great and showed me that sometimes all it takes is patience.
A few months ago I put out a model call for a little Boy newborn for a “nautical” styled newborn portrait session. I carefully prepared all my props the night before and headed over to meet this cute little guy after a long day at the office. When I got there I realized I had left my basket with wraps at home. His mama and I had a good laugh about it and then got on with the session. Baby K just never ceased to amaze me, he was less than a week old and knew his name. Every time I said it he would look right at me, then when he got tired he just went to sleep, as if to say no big deal ill just sleep you do your thing. I hope you enjoy the below images as much as I enjoyed taking them.
This blog is coming a bit late, However I had to share a story that proves sometimes you underestimate children. About a week before Fathers Day this last June there was a knock at my door, I opened it to find my neighbors daughter, thinking she was here for my daughter I started to tell her that my kiddo was not home. She interrupted me and asked if she could hire me to do photos of her and her brother for fathers day. Of course I said yes , she then pulled out her phone and showed me a photo that she had found on Google saying she wanted to do something similar for her dad. We scheduled the day and she got her brothers mom in on the plan so that she could stay the night and her brothers mom would bring them to the photo session. By that time she had bought some letters DAD of course, and a frame for the photos and we set to work.
I am very touched by the thoughtfulness of this little girl. She saved her money to be able to get something her dad would truly enjoy and did it all without him knowing which is a feat in and of itself considering he is a single father and she lives with him!
The below portrait is the end result which she put in the frame she purchased and presented to him on Fathers day.
Being a mother myself I know how important it is to have photos to look back on of your children and your family so every year I offer a special for mothers day portrait sessions. These photos will be the ones that you look back on for years to come and remember that silly little thing that your little one used to do or how they would always pick the road side “flowers” and give them to you.
This year I am offering two different options, its your choice would you like Carnations? Or Roses?

I am a Semi Pro photographer who specializes in on location photography, What does this mean? I do not have a studio and for the most part will use natural light. I love doing sessions that have a high style contrast like Glamorous senior photos in an industrial area or really rocky area and will do everything that I can to make sure your portraits are not “cookie cutter” that is unless you want them to be.
My style is more natural. I generally don’t do skin touch ups other than to remove large blemishes unless asked to. I feel that your natural beauty shines through in photographs. I also try to keep my edits crisp and clean on occasion if the frame screams sun flair or bright sunny day Ill add a little warm haze to add to that feeling or ill give things a little bit of a dreamy feeling with a matte look but even these are done with the thought that less is more.
I currently shoot with a Cannon T3i and have several lenses in my arsenal, as well as a flash that can be used on camera or off mounted on a tripod. I usually carry all my equipment with me except the tripod, though it is usually in my car. This allows me to be ready for most situations.
Some have asked me about back up equipment. I kinda have that covered as well, Once I approached my husband with the Idea of getting me a DSLR So I could branch out from just doing family portraits he grabbed the bull by the horns so to speak and helped me to research and then purchase “our” camera. A few short weeks later we realized that we do not share well! at that point we bought him an DSLR as well and he has since upgraded to a T4i thus I have a back up camera body just in case.

Family Portraits capture Big milestones in your life, Your wedding, First baby, and grand babies as well as all the important points between That makes them special so you don’t want the same thing that everyone else has you want different poses and backgrounds. This is what makes on location outdoor photography so amazing. Even if the poses you want are more traditional you can do it in an amazing setting to make them your own. If your family likes fishing and hunting why not go somewhere like Forest park or somewhere on the Willamette river and get some shots there. Take some of your fishing gear with you as props and really get some creative shots. Or if you’re a sports oriented family go to an open field all decked out in your teams gear. This way you can truly capture your family dynamic. Then again if you are more traditional when it comes to pictures why not dress in matching outfits and go somewhere like waterfront park or the Portland rose gardens and get some beautiful portraits done.
Really I enjoy doing all kinds of shots. I try to make It as fun as possible and if you have several little ones will get some of just them being them. I will try to get special moments of the children together and some of the parents as well as individual shots and large group shots.
