When I met Amanda and John at Starbucks to discuss their wedding photography I knew I wanted to make sure I photographed their big day for them. It didn’t take long during that first meeting for us to be telling jokes and laughing. They let me know that they were just having a very small back yard wedding at one of their family members homes in Washington. Ill admit I was a bit hesitant and worried if there was going to be room to do photos but this couple was so amazing they even created a virtual tour of the property they were using and again I was hooked. The grounds (I say grounds because yard just does not do it justice) could have been a venue if it wasn’t in a gated community. I knew we were going to be able to get some absolutely amazing shots for them. I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Recently I have been using my digital scrap-booking skills for another purpose, I am creating save the date and announcement cards. Since I am spending so much time on these I decided that I should offer them up to the DIY brides that may find my blog. When I create these designs I make sure that they the text and photo are fully customizable and in some cases so is the color. If you are interested in any of these designs there are two ways to order, first if you like the design just the way it is and just want the PSD file to download to your computer and the edit in Photoshop or some other editing software ( there is one you can download that is free called Gimp that will let you edit these PSD files) you can go to my
Deviant Art Gallery where I have made these available for Download for two dollars each. You would then be able to Edit them to say what you want and put in the photo that you would like to use and have them printed somewhere. The second option is if you are unsure how to edit them yourself or would like a color change then you can contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org and we can discuss your save the date design. Custom designs start at 5 dollars depending on the amount of custom work I will need to do.
I really love to be creative and would love to help make your Save the Date announcements represent your relationship. After all you are Unique so why should you have the same announcement as everyone else?
Do you have an amazing love story? I want to hear it! We are having a contest for Valentines day. To enter send your picture to email@example.com with your love story and why you would like to win a free couples photo session. Jesi and Chris came all the way from Hawaii for their wedding, Because of this we did not actually meet in person until the day of their wedding this made planning their pictures a bit of a challenge but we managed beautifully and I am so grateful that they let me be a part of this amazing day. The hall was all decked out with hardwood floors a Christmas tree and Christmas lights and I had an amazing time with them, It didn’t seem to mater what silly pose I asked them to do they were on it. We did most of their pictures before the wedding ceremony so that they would be able to go from the ceremony straight to the reception (well almost, we did have to run outside after to get some pictures with Christmas lights) and enjoy the night with their guests. Congrats you too, I hope you have Many happy years together.

Being a wedding photographer has made me realize that unfortunately the images of one of the days that you will want to remember forever are usually rushed and thus not Of the quality that they could be. Most people do not know how much time to allot to their photographs and I want to try and help with this. Planning your Wedding can be a stressful time so make sure that you use every resource that you have available for you. Your timeline for Photos depends on how long you book your photographer.
If you only have a photographer for an hour on your wedding day then you are pretty limited. Either they show up the hour before your wedding or the hour after the wedding to get all of your posed shots.
When you are deciding what type of package you wish to book please keep in mind the type of photos you wish to get as well as your budget remember that the pictures are what will last forever from that day. You want to make sure that you have enough time to get all the images that you want.
If you are having a short 15 min ceremony and a back yard BBQ reception then more than likely a 3 hour package will be sufficient.
Photographer arrives about a hour and a half before the ceremony first half hour you take pictures of the Groom and Groomsmen and his family. Second half hour you take pictures of the Bride, Bridesmaids and her family, Then a half hr before the Ceremony is to begin you go back in to the bridal room for finishing touches. Ceremony ends 45 min later this leaves about 45 min for the after glow pictures, This includes pictures of the full bridal party and full family and then Pictures of the Bride and Groom together.
If you are having a longer ceremony and would like images of the Reception it may be better to book a Larger package. I currently offer a wedding photography package with 8 hours of coverage for 600 dollars that allows for more coverage. below is the timeline that I usually will use for an 8 hour wedding package
in this case well say that the ceremony is at 4 pm and that the bride and groom are getting ready on location.
Photographer arrives at 1:30 (2.5 Hrs before the ceremony is to start)
1:30-2 photos of the Bride getting ready
2-2:30 Photos with the Groom and Grooms Men and grooms family
2:30-3:30 Bride puts the dress on if not on already and then Photos of the Bride Bridesmaids and Brides family
3:30-4 Finishing touches and more getting ready pictures or pictures of guests arriving
5-6 “After Glow” Pictures
- 5-5:15 Large group family picture
- 5:15-5:30 Large group wedding Party
- 5:30-6 “After Glow” Bride and groom Pictures
6-9:30 Reception Pictures. During this last 3.5 Hrs you will want to make sure that you get any of the events within the reception that you would like Pictures of Such as:
- Daddy daughter dance
- Mother son dance
- Couples First dance
- Cake cutting
- Bouquet Toss
- Garter Toss
These are just a few of the items that you may like pictures of during the reception. This is also just a suggestion of a time line and can be customized based on your needs. Be sure to discuss timelines with your Photographer so that you can make sure he or she knows what it is that you expect.

Two weekends ago I had the Honor of Photographing a beautiful couple on their wedding day. Their Ceremony was held at St John The apostle Catholic Church and Reception at Abigails Garden. The bride Jamie is an amazing person and absolutely awesome to work with. Her new husband , James is easy going and attentative . You can tell how much they love each other even when they do not speak to each other. They employed me for 8 hours that day so I was able to be with them through the whole process. We took pictures before the ceremony with the Groom and grooms men at High Rocks in Gladstone. The contrast of the wedding attire and knowing that this was the beginning of a new life against a place that has taken so many was really awe inspiring. I spent most of the ceremony in the balcony shooting pictures with my Telephoto lens so I was able to get above the action which is kind of an awesome angle. After the ceremony we went out to the churches garden to get some full group shots and then the Bride and Groom and I went to the reception location to get some shots of just them. I Have included a few of the shots from this wedding for you to enjoy.

This last weekend In Portland a VERY brave man proposed to his girlfriend and the video went viral. On youtube this video is called Best Marriage Proposal EVER. -Portland Oregon. I have embedded it below for you to enjoy.
This got me thinking… Why is it that More people dont document this moment? It is going to be something that you will want to remember for the rest of your lives and a story that you will tell your children (should you have any) and grand children( again should you have any) so why not make this not only easier to remember but something that you can truly share with family through the generations. There is a couple ways that I can think of to do this.
One is through video like the guy in the above video did you can either be blatant about this or sneaky, however if you shove a big old camera in your girlfriends face she is going to know whats going on so there are some ways that even with a larger camera you can do this without being all in your face.. Ask a friend to hide out in a crowd with the camera where they can see you and press the record button at the appropriate time, or if you are more out going run of to “go to the rest room” and ask a innocent bystander to covertly record the proposal. If neither one of these are Spy enough for you there are many pin hole video cameras or bat operated “nanny” type cameras. You could wear a pin hole cam on your shirt without anyone knowing or even set up a few of the “nanny cams” in trees and such. Or if you want you can make the recording part of the awe of the proposal and get a flash mob style proposal going.
The other way that I can think of is through the photograph. Bring a camera with you and ask someone around to take pix as you propose or higher a photographer, either way you will get pictures that will last a lifetime and help you to remember this special night.
